about

The third solo release by Gravesend Fats, stepping aside, perhaps, from the brutal blues that usually permeates his work? "If it's about anything, then it's about love," he said at the end of the short session that gave us these - five pieces recorded one after another, only one false start and a moment or two between to change cylinders.

When pressed about who, he waved his arms like Thelonious Monk, indicating the world. After a brief edit to remove some coughs, he gave us the titles, their bracketed sub-titles seeming to be thought up on the spot: Fred harks back to a barely remembered past "I was a different man back then" and Tom, we think, is a nod to the great Tom Robinson. The others it seems are about those that "enter our lives that we choose not to understand, either because we feel the need to run away and hide or because we never make that extra bit of effort to talk to a stranger. Most of the people around us are strangers - brothers, sisters, uncles, neighbours".

So here is Gravesend Fats' latest offering, and while he has his own people that he pays tribute to, we at FinaPhone would like to offer it up to the LGBT+ everywhere, in the hope that one day we all make it over that rainbow.
