This album was recorded during The Lockdown in 2020, a time for the blues if ever one were needed, when our politicians were lining up to tell us how great it was that we werr counting the dead in the tens of thousands. Hence track 2... Some of us knew that one was one too many.

Then there are other tracks that are portraits of people and places, pubs that are now just shadows and shells, women once-known and now vanished in time. And the flights from fights...

But then there's Dolphy, a corner of the upstairs bar of the Daws, bass clarinet standing by at the ready and a cool pint of guinness on the table. It may seem somedays that we're all just a step away from The Boatman, but life is where you find it, even if it is in the low-tone murmuring of the eddies and ripples of a dead river...
