When I first came across Alessandro Moreschi, through the tapes that were originally sent to me, I was immediately struck by the haunting beauty of his voice. The tapes, however, were a mess but turned out to be far better than any of the78s (and one crumbling cylinder disc) that we could acquire. We passed these on to our good friend at Kaja-Disk who has worked comparative wonders in cleaning up the recordings into the version you hear today. Unfortunately, two of the recordings we were given have proved to be of such poor quality that we have been forced to reject them from inclusion in this release.

These recordings stem from the early years of the 20th Century. Neither FinaPhone nor Kaja-Disk claim any copyright in these recordings and are releasing them simply because we feel that they deserve to be heard.
