about

“The Book of Swords” is based on the idea that there is a section missing from Genesis, the first book of the Old Testament, which tells the story of what happens to Adam and Eve and their family following their expulsion from Eden.

As our collaborator - and the one responsible for generating this idea for us - Alfie Cooke explains: In the Old Testament, once the fuss over Cain slaying able dies down, all we get is a list of who begat who, it’s just an incomplete family tree. There is nothing at all about man’s relationship with God until you get to Enoch, six or seven generations down the line. “Swords” is all about the explanation of why that would be, why it is that Adam no longer speaks with God and why the events lead him to lose his faith.”

In a departure from our usual approach, “The Book of Swords” utilizes instrumental recordings made specifically for this project, predominantly using clarinets, low brass, double bass and an instrument new to us, a two-stringed spike-fiddle called a Sorrow that is played upright in the lap. Thus we give you:
